  Abstract This report provides an overview of what is known about how cocaine is produced and trafficked into the European Union. It aims to provide a better understanding of the actors involved, the routes taken, and the scale of the problem in Europe. It also reviews some of the supply reduction responses already developed at European level. Its findings are based on the latest data and analysis available from specialised European and international organisations, NGOs and scholars. This publication is structured in a way that provides a condensed review of key issues relevant to understanding how cocaine reaches European markets. Background information on the chemistry and legal status of cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as key European figures, are also provided.

  Abstract SUMMARY: BMS-790052, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s investigational hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5A inhibitor, demonstrated potent early antiviral activity at 4 and 12 weeks when combined with the standard regimen of pegylated interferon plus ribavirin in previously untreated patients with HCV genotype 1, investigators reported at the at the 45th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL 2010) this month in Vienna.

  Abstract The Report on the Challenge of Addiction is intended as a contribution towards an integrated understanding of addiction policy on the basis of a public health approach. From a health policy perspective, the Report proposes broadening the scope of addiction policy in Switzerland and changing its strategic focus and direction. It recommends ten principles. These are intended to contribute to a coherent policy response to the problematic consumption of all psychoactive substances and to behaviours with addictive potential.
